Socket Designs & Components

Westcoast Brace & Limb is on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to the socket designs and components used in designing our patients' prosthetic devices. Our practitioners take into account each patient's goal and lifestyle and matches that with the appropriate socket design and component to help the patient achieve success.

Some of the advances in prosthetic socket designs and components include: computerized knees, such as the C-Leg, for above the knee amputees. Also, the use of suction for the suspension of a prosthesis by incorporating a gel liner is a new technique in the field of prosthetics. Ossur, which is an innovative prosthetic product manufacturer, added this new technique to its product line earlier last year. Ossur’s Seal-In Liner works by using a hypobaric sealing membrane at the distal end. After an amputee rolls the liner onto his residual limb, he simply This new system reduces elongation of the liner at the end of the residual limb and limits pistoning that may occur in other forms of suspension. By reducing micro-movement in the socket, patients report an increase in proprioception, or that the prosthesis feels more apart of their body.
