Mobile Unit & On Call Services

It's our goal at Westcoast Brace & Limb to provide patients with the highest quality orthotic and prosthetic care, but we also want to make sure that our care and services are convenient and easily accessible.

Our practitioners always have had the ability to travel to hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, schools and other locations to provide patient care, but thanks to the new Westcoast Brace & Limb mobile unit more out-of-office services can be performed.

The new Westcoast mobile unit is a state-of-the-art van with an interior that was specifically designed so certain orthotic and prosthetic repairs and adjustments can be made on-site. The van is equipped so minor adjustments and repairs can be made to custom braces such as AFOs, DAFOs and TLSOs. Orthotic devices that need to be trimmed, sanded, grinded, heated or cut down can all be done inside the van. However, it is still best for any major repairs to be done at our fabrication lab at our North Tampa corporate office.

The mobile unit also is fully stocked with a variety of off-the-shelf soft good orthotics, including Aspen collars, ROM knees, fixed boots, corsets and much more.

Prosthetic services such as evaluations, castings and fittings also can be provided at various facilities, but if possible it is best for prosthetic patients to eventually be seen at one of our four office locations.

While the mobile unit does make providing services to patients much easier, it's not always a perfect system, and in certain cases it may be beneficial for a patient to come into one of our facilities. For example, a patient may be fit in a hospital with a brace and once he goes home that brace may need adjustments. If the patient is homebound and the brace needs major adjustments requiring the orthotist to bring it back to our office, the patient may be without the brace for a day or two, which can be an inconvenience. If the patient is able to make it to one of our facilities the adjustments can be made while the patient waits and he doesn't need to be without the brace for any period of time.

All mobile unit out-patient calls are scheduled through our North Tampa office. If you need to make a call, it's important to have a physician's prescription, insurance information and the type of device required (if you're not sure what is needed the orthotist/prosthetist or coordinator can speak with you over the phone prior to arrival).

The mobile unit also is used for any emergencies that may arise, which means occasionally an out-patient appointment will have to be rescheduled, but we always make our best effort to get to the patient as close as possible to the allotted appointment time.

If you have any questions about our mobile unit or need to schedule an out-patient call, please contact Linda for orthotics and Jennifer for prosthetics at (813) 985-5000.
