Custom Fabricated Orthotics
A custom orthotic device is fabricated based on a mold, or model, of the user’s affected body part. A mold may be obtained by using one of two methods: physically casting the patient or obtaining detailed measurements. The practitioner then fabricates the orthotic device around the model of the affected body part. Once the device is complete, the practitioner fits the device to the patient.
Westcoast Brace & Limb is capable of creating any custom-designed upper extremity orthotic device, including:
- Custom hand/arm splints
- Flexion/extension wrist/hand/finger devices
- Joint stabilizers & restraints (finger, elbow, etc…)
Custom-Fitted Pre-Fabricated Orthotics
A custom fitted, pre-fabricated orthotic device is one that is ready ‘off the shelf’. These devices are available in several sizes. They are either kept in stock, or they may be ordered following evaluation. During the fitting, the practitioner ensures that the device properly fits and that it addresses the patient’s orthotic needs. If necessary, the practitioner may adjust and/or modify the device.
Westcoast Brace & Limb practitioners custom fit an array of pre-fabricated upper extremity orthotic devices, such as:
- Shoulder immobilizers
- Wrist/hand splints
- Cock-up splints
- Arms slings
