Abby Wold is a 31 year old student at the University of South Florida in Tampa. In 2003, she survived Meningococcal Meningitis complicated by multiple organ failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and Waterhouse-Frederichsen syndrome. She was on life support with a grim prognosis and in a coma for two weeks. As a result of her illness, Abby suffered bilateral below knee amputations, the amputation of two fingertips and developed permanent adrenal insufficiency. She also has extensive scarring at her joints and some skin grafts.
